Description of HDPE Pipe for Sewer

In recent decades, high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes have become the ideal plumbing solution for public and private sewerage, drainage and wastewater systems. Whereas more traditional materials such as concrete, ductile iron or PVC pipe are susceptible to corrosion, fatigue and chemical attack, HDPE sanitary sewer pipe solves these problems with a 100 year service life, making it ideal for any municipal or private sewer owner with a low maintenance investment.

HDPE pipe is corrosion resistant in addition to naturally inhibiting the growth of certain organisms. This material also offers smooth water flow as it is resistant to the buildup of scale and lime deposits.

Benefits of HDPE Pipe for Sewer

HDPE pipes offer significant advantages over other common materials used in sewerage systems such as PVC, ductile iron or concrete. These include:

Chemical resistance. Hydrogen sulphide gas (H2S) corrosion is a serious threat to conventional sewer pipes such as concrete and ductile iron, significantly shortening their service life. Bingo HDPE pipes are not subject to H2S attack, corrosion and degradation and have a service life of 100 years.

Corrosion resistance. HDPE piping systems are immune to the harmful effects of corrosion and nodules, a common factor in reducing the operational life of concrete and ductile iron wastewater systems. HDPE Sewer Pipes is also resistant to other corrosive or harmful agents, including scaling and organic matter such as fungi, bacteria and other microbial contaminants.

Leak-free. HDPE pipes are joined together by hot fusion, creating a welded, leak-free joint, unlike traditional bell and socket joints. These leak-free joints prevent infiltration and outflow, making it a truly hygienic piping system.

Durable. HDPE pipes are resistant to water hammer and fatigue from surge events in sewer pressure pipelines. HDPE pipes are also abrasion resistant, ensuring that flowing water and slurry will not damage the pipe over its lifetime.

Lightweight. HDPE pipes are lighter in weight than ductile iron or concrete alternatives, which makes transportation and installation significantly easier and safer.
